Our beloved mother, Jan Sittig Jamroz, sadly passed away on December 21, 2024, at the age of 74. Jan was an extraordinary mother, a loyal friend, and a cherished member of her community. Her unwavering support, wisdom, and love were gifts that she freely gave to everyone around her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and compassion that touched the lives of all who knew her.
Jan was predeceased by her parents, Shirley and Bill Sittig, her husband, Richard, and her brother Bob. She is survived by her children: Julia (Eric) French, Amy (Frank) Morovich, Lucas Jamroz, as well as her stepdaughter, Susanna Stegle. She was a proud grandmother to Matilda and Lukas Stegle Sebren; Jason and Morgan French; Anna Kate, Grace and Keegan Morovich; and Caleb Jamroz. Additionally, Jan is survived by her loving partner, Vinny Alonge; both her sisters, Nancy Smith and Liz Maitral; along with countless family and friends who were fortunate enough to experience her warmth and generosity.
Born in Chicago in 1950, Jan spent much of her childhood in Glencoe before moving to Hudson, Ohio in 1968. She graduated from Hudson High School and later attended the Katherine Gibbs School in New York City. It was at a protest for the Vietnam War that Jan met her husband, Richard Jamroz, and they were married within the year. Throughout their journey together, Jan and Richard moved to various locations due to Richard’s work in sales, but Jan was always dedicated to raising their children.
Once the family settled on Long Island, Jan returned to school, earning a degree in Public Health and Administration. She graduated St. Joseph’s College alongside her daughter, Amy, and went on to dedicate her career to helping others. As a Parish Outreach Coordinator through the Church St. Mary and as the director of Parish Social Ministries with Catholic Charities, Jan worked tirelessly to support disenfranchised communities and individuals until her retirement in 2017.
Jan's life was defined by her love for her family and her dedication to making the world a better place. She was a woman of remarkable integrity and compassion, always putting others before herself.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Long Island Cares or St. Raphael’s Parish Social Ministry, in honor of Jan’s lifelong commitment to service and helping those in need.
Jan’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will remain with us forever.
