Salvatore S Macaluso

It is with deep sorrow that we announce, Salvatore "Sam" Macaluso, aged 86, of Baldwin Harbor, NY, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2023, surrounded by his  loved ones. Born in Manhattan, NY, to Luigi and Jennie Macaluso, he was the youngest of seven children. Sam, as he was affectionately known, was surrounded by a large and loving family. He cherished his five sisters, and older brother. Together, they experienced the joys and adventures that come with a close-knit family.

After graduating from Manhattan High School of Aviation Trades in the Class of 1954, Sam embarked on a rich and meaningful life journey. He was an active member of the community, starting as a member of the Madison Square Boys Club, Loyal Order of the Moose Fraternity and Elks Lodge. In 1960, he honorably served his country in the United States Army, stationed overseas in France. Sam’s commitment to duty led him to serve as a skilled tractor-trailer driver, transporting bombs. He proudly loved sharing stories of his adventures across Europe to all who would listen. His military service was a testament to his courage and dedication.

Following his military service, Sam embarked on a successful career as a business owner before assuming the role of Manager at Edlaw Pharmaceuticals, where he  dedicated over 25 years of his life. Sam's work ethic and integrity earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

In his free time, Sam was a talented inventor and enjoyed creating in his workshop. He was a man of many talents and loved helping others. He was known for his can-do attitude and his willingness to lend a hand to those in need. He was always sporting a smile, even through the toughest of times. His positive outlook on life was evident, even during his remarkable 21-year battle with cancer. He was a man who wore many hats in his colorful life and was truly one of a kind.

Above all Sam cherished his role as a family man. A man of strong character, rooted in his Italian heritage, he embodied the values of family, loyalty, and generosity He leaves behind his loving wife, Dorothy, his daughter, Jessie, his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Nick, his grandson, Joseph, and grand-dog Patchi. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Jennie and Luigi, his sisters Lucy Baderian, Rose Collins, Eleanor Boyer, Phyllis Nostro, Mary Helen Harris, and his brother Joseph Macaluso.

Sam's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered as a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many through his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
