Athena Mountanos, beloved mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on April 15, 1933, in Agia Triada, Greece, Athena carried with her the values of faith, family, and generosity throughout her life. She later immigrated to the United States, where she built a beautiful life centered on love, hard work, and devotion to those around her.
Athena was married to the love of her life, Haralambos Mountanos, for more than 50 years until his passing in 2014. Together, they created a warm and loving home and a close-knit family that remained the center of her world.
After arriving in the United States, Athena began her career working for a fashion designer in Manhattan. She later left the workforce to dedicate herself to raising her children. Once her children were grown, she returned to work in hospitality. When her grandchildren were born, Athena once again stepped away from work to help raise them, embracing that role with endless love and pride.
Athena lived a life rooted in her faith, her church, and her family — both immediate and extended. She found great joy in cooking and baking for her church community and loved ones, always ensuring no one left her home without a full plate and feeling cared for. She cherished hosting gatherings and being surrounded by family and friends at every stage of her life. Her love extended deeply to her nieces and nephews, and to their children, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Athena is survived by her three children, Eleni (Mountanos) Mantikas, George Mountanos, and Gus Mountanos; by her son in law Dimitrios Mantikas and by her four beloved grandchildren, Anjelica Mantikas, Michael Mantikas, Tristan Mountanos, and Marianna Minos. She was predeceased by her husband, Haralambos Mountanos; her sister, Loula (Skoufis) Kourmousis; and her brothers, Andreas Skoufis, Anastasios Skoufis, Dimitrios Skoufis, and Michael Skoufis.
Athena will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her deep faith, her generosity, and the warmth she brought to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love and selflessness will live on through the many lives she touched.
