Charles William Breslin, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday October 6, 2024.
Funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart RC Church, Island Park at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, 111 Old Country Rd. Westbury. Visitation will be held at Towers Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 9 from 7-9, Thursday 2-4 and 7-9pm.
Charlie was born in Brooklyn and moved with his family to Island Park as a young boy. He spent his life in Island Park. After serving in the US Coast Guard, he became a carpenter by trade. He married Ellen Gravina in1960 and together they raised their three girls in a house he built on Saratoga Blvd. Charlie was widowed in 1990 after being married to Ellen for 30 years. In 1995 he married Ann Leonard. They shared 17 years together until her death in 2012. Charlie was dedicated to serving his community. He was a 68-year member of the Island Park Fire Department serving as Chief of Department from 1975-76. He was a founding member of the Barnum Island Board of Fire Commissioners and served as with them for many years. His legacy of community services continues today through the dedication of his sons in laws & grandsons to the Oceanside Fire District. Charlie will be remembered as a loving father & grandfather.
Charlie is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Thomas), Ellen (Jonathan), Laura (Daniel) and his bonus daughter, Lara (Darin). His grandchildren: Sean (Alona), Caitlin (Robert), Matthew (LeighMarie) Erin (Matthew), Anthony, Fiona (Stephen), Cameryn (Ethan), Maddie, Aydan and Jonathan. Great grandchildren: Jacob, Charlie, Emma and Baby-to-be Habermann along with many beloved extended family members including brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wives, Ellen and Ann, his parents Patrick John and Sophia Breslin and siblings John J. Breslin and Ann Reid.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Good Shepard Hospice, Port Jefferson NY in memory of Charles W. Breslin.
