Christine Constant

Christine Constant (Moustakakis), 87, died Wednesday, November 21st, 2018 at home surrounded by her beloved children and grandchildren from complications from her courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Constantine (Gus) Constant. She is also survived by her children Doreen Moffat and her husband Christopher Moffat, Mary Jane Constant and her spouse Tina Waltke, Robert (Bobby) Constant and his wife Celeste Constant, and Susie Moore. She was the proud grandmother to her six cherished grandchildren Amelia Jane, Hannah Christina, Peter Andrew, Sugar Helena, Nicholas Charles, and Zoe Grace. She also leaves behind many many treasured nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and two sisters Mary Zucconi and Helen Schultz. She would often be heard saying "Thank God for children and grandchildren".



Christine was born February 21st, 1931, in Jamaica, NY, daughter of Andrew and Zaharo (Paparis) Moustakakis. Christine and Gus lived in New York for most of their lives where they raised four children. While raising her children she earned her BS in Biology from SUNY Old Westbury where she graduated at the top of her class. She went on to earn her Master's in Social Work from Adelphi University and after a long, full career, ultimately retired as Director of Public Health Social Work from the Nassau County Department of Public Health. She loved her family and her faith and served as Philoptochos President at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bridgeport, CT during their sixteen years in Connecticut. She made a beautiful home wherever she lived, including her dearest Floral Park, NY home where she often took her family antiquing for George Washington inspired pieces and her historical home built in 1865 in Stratford, CT. She balanced her career with her wonderful husband, motherhood, homemaking, volunteering, and her faith. She also enjoyed playing the organ for many years at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Flushing, NY and traveling to Greece with her church and family from which her parents immigrated.



A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 27th, on Long Island, at St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church in Hempstead, NY. The service will begin at 10:00am, with the burial to follow at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Ladies Philoptochos of St. Panaghia in Christine's name would be greatly appreciated. St. Panaghia, PO Box 308, Island Park, NY 11558.
