Donna McCarthy

May 15, 1956 – April 30, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donna McCarthy, who left us on April 30, 2026. A woman of immense talent, warmth, and dedication, Donna’s legacy is defined by her pioneering spirit and her unwavering love for those around her.

Family and Legacy

Donna’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She was the beloved wife of Ed Cohen, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Her legacy of kindness and strength lives on through her family, and she will be deeply missed by:

Her husband, Ed Cohen.

Her son, Christopher, and his wife, Richelle.

Her grandson, Dustin, who brought her endless joy.

Her sisters, Debbie and Linda, who remained her lifelong companions and best friends.

Her loyal companion, Angie.

A Life Full of Heart

Donna’s heart was always anchored by the people in her life. To many who knew her, she was truly an angel on earth. She was known for making huge personal sacrifices for friends and family, never hesitating to step in when someone was in need. Whether providing a helping hand, a place of refuge, or unwavering emotional support, Donna consistently put the well-being of others above her own. Her selflessness was a quiet, powerful force that transformed the lives of those she touched.

That same deep capacity for love extended to her passion for animals. She was rarely seen without her beloved pet, Angie, who was a constant and loyal companion by her side. Throughout her life, Donna was a devoted champion for animals, finding immense joy in their company.

A Pioneer in the Broadcast Industry

While her family and friends were her world, Donna was a formidable force in her professional life. Over a distinguished 40-year career at NBC, she established herself as a true pioneer.

Entering the broadcast industry at a time when it was overwhelmingly male-dominated, Donna faced significant challenges. In those early years, she had to work twice as hard to earn the respect of her peers, navigating an environment that wasn't always welcoming to women in technical roles. Through sheer talent, perseverance, and grit, she not only succeeded but became a cornerstone of the team. She saw the industry through decades of technical evolution, reliably ensuring that the work was done with the high standard she set for herself. She didn't just work in the industry; she helped change it for the women who followed.

Memorial Contributions

In honor of Donna’s love for people, animals, and her dear Angie, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the North Shore Animal League of Long Island, NY.
