Floyd "Bruce" Anthony Parkin, beloved father, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully in
his sleep on Sunday morning, June 23, 2024, at the age of 62. Bruce, as he was affectionately
known, leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, love and dedication to his family and
friends.
Born April 5, 1962 in Hanover, Jamaica, Bruce was raised by his mother, Zericka and Aunt
Babrie with a deep appreciation of church, family, and the simple joys of life growing up in the
Caribbean. His upbringing in the church community was alongside his brother Paul and close
cousins Devon, Opal and Sharon, who were very much like siblings.
In 1981, Bruce had the privilege to move to the US with his brother and mother to their home in
East New York, where he took his last breath. It was here in New York where he created a new
life, finished school, and completed his 30-year nursing career, while never forgetting his humble
Jamaican roots. His genuine concern for others and his ability to bring a smile to anyone's face
will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Bruce's greatest joy in life was his family. After marrying his wife, Alethia, he was a devoted
husband and father to their sons Trey and Justin as well as their niece/daughter Skylar, nurturing
them all with wisdom, encouragement and unwavering support in every endeavor. Bruce and
Alethia’s dedication to one another overcame unforeseen challenges throughout their many
years, and they will forever share countless memories of friendship and love.
In his free time, Bruce’s adventurous spirit led him to numerous trips and cruises all over the US,
Caribbean and Europe. He enjoyed watching movies, cooking curry beef and oxtails, tinkering
with all the latest gadgets, and finding solace in his diverse taste in music. Like most Caribbean
men, he loved watching sports, and had an old school love for cricket.
Bruce is survived by his beloved mother Zericka, brother Paul, wife Alethia, sons Trey and
Justin, daughter-in-law Celina, granddaughter Adelynn, dearest Aunt Babrie, Uncle Monty,
sisters-in-law Colleen and Marlene, niece/daughter Skylar; cousins Beverly, Claudia, Rose,
Devon, Opal, and Sharon, nieces Leisa and Tennille, and a host of extended family members and
friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Bruce's legacy of love, kindness, and integrity will always live on in our hearts. May he rest in
heavenly peace, enjoying his eternal life with friends and loved ones gone before him until we
meet again.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in remembrance of Floyd.
