Francis Xavier Sweeney

Francis Xavier Sweeney, 72, a resident of the Minooka neighborhood in Scranton, PA, died Saturday March 15, 2025, after a battle with cancer.

Born in Valley Stream, Long Island, son of the late Gerard J. Sweeney and Juel Corbett, Frank attended Valley Stream Elementary School, Holy Cross High School, and Wheeling Jesuit College. Frank had a 40 year career in the Banking/Financial Services industry, which began at Atlantic Bank in NYC. Over the years he also worked at HSBC, Bank of New York, Capital One, Bank United, Santander and People’s United Bank.

Frank was a devoted father, father-in-law and friend.

He is survived by his four children, his son Kevin, daughters Bridget, Carolyn and Sheila, two grandchildren, Kieran and Connor, his sons-in-law Trip, Greg and Chris, his ex-wife Kathleen, sister-in-law Judy, and his niece Tara and nephew John.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Michael Sweeney.
