George Tsotsos

George H. Tsotsos, a beloved brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather,

and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024. Born on August 18, 1937, in

Skoura, Sparti, Greece, George was the son of Haralambos and Antonia Tsotsos and the eldest

brother to John (Kalliopi) and Nikolas (Katerina) Tsotsos.

At the age of 19, George embarked on a new journey across the Atlantic, arriving at Ellis Island

to pursue what would become the American Dream. His entrepreneurial spirit soon led him to

co-found the Baldwin Coach Diner in 1964 with partners Peter Kanaras and Tommy Matthews. It

was here that he met his wife, Marina Mendavlos. They were married on July 18, 1965, and

together they built a life filled with love and laughter on Long Island, NY.

George and Marina were blessed with three children: Antonia, Bobby, and Spiro. Their family

grew with the addition of their children’s spouses: Spero, Erene, and Barbara. George was also

a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Stratton (Mariana), Valerie (Jordan), Marina

(Steven), Marina, George, Andreas, and Michael, and a joyful great-grandfather to Anastasia,

John, and Theo.

In 1997, George retired and dedicated his time to what he loved most—cherishing moments

with his family. In 2005, he and Marina moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which became his

true happy place. George embraced a simple yet fulfilling life, enjoying daily walks by the beach,

church and coffee outings, card games with friends, and spending quality time with his wife.

He will be remembered for his infectious laughter and the warmth he brought to everyone

around him. His spirit will live on through the countless cherished memories and the love he

shared with his family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Demetrios Greek

Orthodox Church in Merrick, NY.

George H. Tsotsos will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew

and loved him.
