Georgia S. Mellides, 77

Georgia Mellides passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Georgia was born December 8, 1934 in New York, N.Y., and is the youngest of four children.

Georgia married her husband Sophocles Mellides in 1952 and they were married for 27 years until 1979 when Sophocles passed.

Georgia spent her life devoted to her family. She loved to travel and see the world and share her experiences and her unwavering humor with her family and all who touched her. She spent 21 years working at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park.

She is survived by her sister, Bessie Zillas of Flushing, NY; son, Norman Mellides and wife, Sheri, of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter, Nikki Mellides of Bellerose, NY; son Steven Mellides and wife, Kathy, of Massapequa, NY; grandson, Clifford Mellides; granddaughter, Nicole Schnabel and her husband John of Brightwaters, NY; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation Services will be Saturday, July 21, 2012 from 7:00pm-9:00pm and Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 2:00pm-4:00pm & 7:00pm-9:00pm at Towers Funeral Home Inc., Oceanside, NY.

Funeral Service will be Monday, July 23, 2012 at 11:30am at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Paul, Hempstead, NY.

In lieu of flowers the Mellides family requests donations be made to: Thoracic Research Fund, Dr. M. Catherine Pietanza at 300 East 66th St. New York, NY 10065.
