Gregory J. Canell

Gregory J. Canell, age 87, of New Hyde Park, NY died Monday, May 24, 2021.

Greg wore many hats during his life & was known to many in our community as Professor, Coach , & mentor. He cared so much for his beloved St Paul’s. Coaching GOYA basketball for many years in the ‘70’s, Greg & his teams brought countless championships to Hempstead. He was also integral in obtaining the scoreboard in our gym that is still in use today.

Greg also lent his talents to numerous talks to our church organizations on “Memory & Mind Expansion.”

Greg joins his wife Theresa who fell asleep 4 years earlier. He is survived by sons James & William. Daughters in law Pamela & Deborah. Grandchildren Anastasia , Gregory , James & Brandon.

The funeral service will be held 10:00 am on Saturday, May 29th at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Of St. Paul, 110 Cathedral Ave, Hempstead, NY. The burial will follow the service and be at Pinelawn Memorial Park, in Farmingdale, NY.
