Isabelle M. Heaney

Isabelle M. Heaney (February 1, 1935 - July 5, 2024)

Isabelle Heaney passed away, at age 89, peacefully at home in South Hempstead (NY) on July 5, 2024. She entered eternal rest and was reunited with her late husband Thomas, the love of her life, who passed away 50 years ago.

Isabelle will be remembered for her devotion to her family and faith, resilience, grace, love of butterflies, dedicated work ethic, quick wit and sense of humor, anti-aging appearance, cooking expertise and mentorship, willingness to help those in need, distinguished bridge (card game) skills, planning and hosting social parties, traveling and living life to the fullest.

She was born in Jersey City (NJ) and raised by her parents Isabelle (Belle) and Edward Shaara. She grew up with her younger brother Edward and was surrounded by a large, extended family. After graduating from high school, Isabelle moved to Long Island to pursue a career. She met the love of her life, Thomas Heaney, settled in Rockville Centre (NY) and started a family.

Isabelle worked for over 50 years. This included a career in insurance, most notably with Genatt Associates for 30 years, and management of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) program for the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Isabelle also taught cooking classes, served as a lector and eucharistic minister at St. Agnes Cathedral, and, most recently, took volunteer leadership roles (including secretary) at the Village of Rockville Centre’s Sandel Senior Center.

Isabelle is survived by her two sons - Stephen and Daniel - and daughter-in-law Regina (wife of Daniel.) Her greatest joy in life was being a grandmother to four grandchildren - Kevin (Elizabeth), Kerrin, Thomas and Samuel - and a great-grandmother to James (son of Kevin and Elizabeth.)

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:45 am on Wednesday, July 10th at St. Agnes RC Cathedral, Quealy Pl, Rockville Centre, NY.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, July 9th from 3 - 8PM at Towers Funeral Home Inc., 2681 Long Beach Rd, Oceanside, NY. In lieu of flowers, Isabelle's family request donation be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, https://www.alz.org .
