James Aloysius Conklin Sr

James Aloysius Conklin Sr

James Aloysius Conklin of Oceanside, went to the lord on May 1, 2014. He was 90. He was the loving husband of Mary Theresa Conklin (nee Cullen) for 67 years. James was the firstborn son to James A. Conklin and Loretta Winter on May 27, 1923. He graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1941 and went to Aeronautical School before joining the Army Air Force in 1942. He spent WWII in New Guinea as an airplane mechanic and never forgot the beautiful sights he saw as he traveled the world to get there. Once back home, he worked several jobs, but settled into the NYPD for his career. He attained the rank of Captain in the NYPD and commanded the motorcycle, aviation units as commander.



James raised six children with Mary and then raised his daughter's three children who survived a car accident. He was a loving, caring father who always gave the right advice and insisted we do the "right thing".



In retirment, he loved to read, and spend winters in Florida with Mary golfing and swimming. They also loved to travel and visited many countries.



In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Kenneth Conklin and John Conklin and sisters, Cecilia Owens, Joyce Holden, Marjorie Ann Calvano, Rosemary Germano, Arlene Tabacynski and Bernadette Cavallaro, his children, James A. Conklin, Kathleen White, Kevin T. Conklin, Stephen Conklin and Peter Conklin. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Erin Herda, Shannon Tansey, Ryan Tansey, James Conklin, Colleen Simmons, Christine Gonzalez, Kevin Blaess, John Blaess, William Conklin, Stephen Conklin, Kelly Conklin, Kristen Conklin and Brian Conklin. James is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.



He was pre-deceased by his sister, Loretta Nowakowski and his daughter, Mary T. Conklin.



In lieu of flowers send donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Good Shepard Hospice.
