Jean P. Wade passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, at the age of 93, with her devoted children at her side. Born on August 21, 1932 in Jackson Heights, New York, she was the seventh and youngest child in a large and loving Italian family. Her childhood years were full of lively adventures with her siblings, golden school days, and memorable trips to Rockaway Beach.
As a young woman, she enjoyed a successful secretarial career at King Features and Newsweek Magazine in New York City. In 1959, she married her Navy veteran Bob, beginning a 50 year marriage and a new phase in life in Baldwin, New York, where they settled in 1963.
Their children were raised in the beloved home Jean happily resided in until her passing. She was known for her warm hospitality; she welcomed all - family, friends, friends of friends - making everyone feel comfortable with heartfelt conversations, storytelling, and the comfort of sharing good food.
Jean’s love of her family and friends, and deep faith in God always came first in her life. She was a dedicated parishioner of St. Christopher’s Church for over 60 years with prayer an essential part of her daily routine. Her life truly reflected what she highly valued which was caring for others, compassion, patience, and hard work. Her diverse interests and hobbies included a passion for cooking, solving crossword puzzles, reading, writing poetry, and traveling. As an extraordinary Nanny, she was the ever-cheering fan on fields and in arenas and auditoriums.
Her kindness, warmth, humor, and strength defined her to the end of her earthly life. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her. Preceded in death by her husband Bob, she is survived by her children, Patricia (Bob) and Bobby; and her granddaughter Sarah (Nick).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean’s memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
