John Schaefer, a beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the age of 69. John was born on Tuesday, December 18, 1956, in Manhattan, New York, and raised in the vibrant community of Brooklyn, NY. He later settled in Oceanside, NY, where he created a loving home with his family.
John dedicated his career to serving the city of New York as a Conductor Officer with the NYC Transit Authority. His commitment to his work and his community was admired by all. John's passion for life was evident in his love for fishing and his deep-seated patriotism, celebrating America at every opportunity.
John is survived by his wife Cathy, his treasured daughter Christine, his beloved son John and daughter-in-law Elisa. His joy in life was further enriched by his grandchildren Brooke, Shane, and Bridget, and his four-legged grandbaby Mylo. He is also survived by his siblings Carol, Peter (Susan), Janet (Billy), as well as cherished in-laws, Dianne, Joey (Elana), Jeanne, Joanne (Richie). John's memory will live on in the hearts of his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
John is reunited in eternal rest with his parents, Peter and Eleanor, who predeceased him.
John's presence brought love and laughter to those around him, and he will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Arrangements to celebrate John's life have been made with Towers Funeral Home. His family invites all who knew and loved him to join in honoring his remarkable life and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
