The family of John A. Tsigonias is deeply saddened to announce his passing on February 8, 2026. He was born in Paros, Greece on March 10, 1938.
John is survived by his daughter, Fran, grandchildren Elena and Jenna and son-in-law John. His wife, Harriet, passed away on August 28, 2021. He leaves behind family and friends who loved him so very much and who will remember him always.
John emigrated from Greece to pursue the American dream after working as a merchant marine traveling the world and serving in the Greek navy as a frogman. With his dearly departed cousins, James and Mary, he successfully owned and operated Tsigonias Paints, a manufacturing and retail paint business based in Jersey City and Astoria, for over fifty years.
While he embraced life in the United States, he still loved his beautiful island of Paros and visited quite often. He passed this love onto Fran, John, Elena and Jenna. He was an avid swimmer, speargun fisher; he loved photography, cross pollinating roses, and painting beautiful landscapes of Greece. He had the very best sense of humor and was the very best father, husband and grandfather.
He suffered from Alzheimer's Disease for many years but with his passing, he is now free and at peace. We believe that he is now surrounded by all his loved ones who predeceased him and who he missed so very much. We will continue to love him everyday for the rest of our lives. Goodbye sweet daddy.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation in John's memory.
