Joseph Francis Longhway III, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 29,
2025, at the age of 74.
Born on January 3, 1951, in the Rockaways, New York, Joseph was known for his quiet
strength, warm heart, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. A skilled carpenter for over
over 40 years, he was a proud member of Local Union #290 and put his skills to work at Long
Island University, C.W. Post.
Though old-fashioned in many ways, Joseph always kept an open mind and a light heart. He
had an easygoing spirit and a naturally positive outlook, uplifting everyone around him with his
calm demeanor and sincere kindness. He was someone you could always count on—steady,
dependable, and loyal to the core.
Joseph found simple joy in life’s everyday moments—he enjoyed Sundays at Long Beach
Plaza, where he spent time with the K9 trainers. He adored his faithful German Shepherd, Tina,
who remained loyally by his side. He loved his mother’s cooking—none more than her famous
pot roast—and treasured evenings on the porch with his family, sipping coffee and sharing
donuts in the comfort of their company.
Above all, Joseph cherished his time with his grandchildren. Whether it was attending their
games, listening to their stories, or simply being present, he never missed an opportunity to
show up with love and support. To his six grandchildren—Kyle, Parker, Peyton, Joseph William
(JW), Avery, and Charlotte—he was more than just “Popa Joe”; he was a constant source of
encouragement, laughter, and unconditional love.
He is survived by his wife Judith Rackovitch; daughter, Mindy Sue Miller (Jared Miller); his son,
Joseph Francis Longhway IV (Elizabeth Longhway); and his grandchildren, who adored him.
A viewing will be held on Monday, May 5th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Towers Funeral Home in
Oceanside, NY, and a Funeral Mass will follow on Tuesday, May 6th at 11:00 AM at St.
Martha’s Catholic Church in Uniondale, NY.
Joseph’s legacy of love, humility, and strength lives on through those who knew him. He will be
deeply missed and fondly remembered always. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations
be made to Brotherhood of the Fallen, Suffolk County.
