Julie A. McLaughlin

Julie Ann (Potter) McLaughlin passed away on November 14, 2025 after a months-long battle with brain cancer. She is survived by her daughters Dana (Matt) Abraham and Meredith McLaughlin, granddaughter Julia Abraham, sisters Shari (Jerry) Calabrese, Jill (Gene) Rochette, Jenni (Sean) Potter, and many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law. Julie is preceded in death by her parents, Don and Nancy Potter.

Born an identical twin in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Julie’s energy, kindness, and intelligence were evident from the start. She excelled in both athletics and academics. After graduating from high school in Livingston, New Jersey, Julie went on to study and swim at Albright College before pursuing her master’s degree at the University of California at Berkeley. She then moved to Long Island where she began a 39-year career as a Genetic Counselor. Even as she approached retirement age, Julie always said she loved her job so much that she would work forever if she could.

Julie had a passion for life, spending her free time staying active outdoors, riding her bicycle, kayaking, traveling, relaxing on the beach, attending concerts and events, doing yard work, exploring wineries and cooking delicious meals. She loved entertaining friends and family and often effortlessly hosted more than 30 people at her home for the holidays. An active member of her community, Julie also coached Dana and Meredith’s youth sports teams and planned annual block parties and holiday parties for the neighborhood, even dressing as the Easter bunny each year. Julie modeled the importance of showing up for those she loved, never missing a milestone celebration such as a birthday, baby or bridal shower, or sporting event. Julie also gave selflessly throughout her life, including cooking meals for families in need at the Ronald McDonald House. She was the first to help another in need and was so grateful to those who showed her the same kindness throughout her illness. She will be deeply missed by everyone who loved her.

Visitation will be held at Towers Funeral Home in Oceanside on Monday, November 17 from 4-8pm.
