Kaitlin A. Geraghty

Our beautiful Kaitlin Geraghty (xokatieg, KK), 22, of Oceanside, New York, was taken from us too soon, on Wednesday, December 19, 2018.

Kaitlin was born to mom, Rachel Geraghty, and dad, Richard Geraghty, on November 15, 1996. Although devastated, she is survived by her mom and dad, her grandmother, Kathleen (Mei Mei) Lindsley, Godfather and Uncle Michael Lindsley (Unc), Godmother and Aunt Ann Geraghty, Aunt Jamie Blanderburgo, Uncle and Aunt Frank and Anita Geraghty, her many beautiful cousins, and many other family and friends.

Kaitlin was a 1L student at the Washington College of Law at American University in Washington, D.C. She was a Hospitality Agent at Sonder. On May 20, 2018, Kaitlin graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Special Education. During her undergraduate career, she was involved in countless clubs, activities, and internships, including employment by United States Senator Elizabeth Warren, was the Vice President of the College of Arts and Sciences, Chairwoman of the Committee for Class Gift, and had the honor of speaking at the Class of 2018’s Commencement alongside civil rights leader and United States Representative of Georgia, John Lewis, and Mayor of Puerto Rico, Carmen Yulín Cruz Soto. She was a valued member and leader of Alpha Phi Omega fraternity, worked for both The Office of Undergraduate Admissions and The Office of Residence Life, was a valued volunteer and staff member of FYSOP, a community outreach program for incoming students, and started the Democracy Matters club, a club dedicated to advocate for and to bring together individuals regardless of political ideology or party affiliation.

Kaitlin graduated from Oceanside High School in June 2014 with an Advanced Regents diploma with honors. She was the recipient of the Johnny Russell Memorial and Oceanside Kiwanettes scholarships. She was a valued leader of DECA, Key Club, National Honors Society, Best Buddies, Sport Night, and assisted the Oceanside Kiwanis Club in many community and charity events.

In addition to the profound accomplishments she achieved in high school and college, Kaitlin had a tremendous passion for traveling. While in high school, Kaitlin and her class traveled to prominent cities in Spain. During college, she spent a summer studying in Dublin, Ireland and interned for the Sydney Green Party for Catherine Martin. She then spent a semester studying in Australia and interning for former Attorney General John Dodd of New South Wales. In her travels she visited Paris, London, her family in different parts of Ireland, several cities of Australia, as well as several cities in New Zealand.

Kaitlin is extremely passionate and dedicated to helping people with physical and mental disabilities as well as marginalized groups. Her dream is to make the world a better place for all and her ultimate goal is to advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves. There is not a challenge that Kaitlin cannot overcome. She is caring, witty, and sassy. Those whom Kaitlin surrounds herself with are not only friends, but also family. She reaches out every single day to every single friend, always looks forward to family events, greets visitors arriving at her mom’s house from D.C. through the Ring Doorbell, we suspect she shut down the government and made sure there is a Harry Potter marathon this weekend. She loves The Office, Parks and Recreation, John Mullaney, Buddy the Elf, Starbucks, The Grinch, SNL, and is a Harry Potter fanatic.

The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone during this difficult time. Your love, support, and generosity are immensely appreciated.
