Lenore Fleming

Lenore was born in Queens County, NY, the youngest of the four children of Delmar and Wilma Nuetzman who had recently relocated from their native Nebraska. She was a New Yorker by birth but always retained a sense of her Midwestern roots and values.

She had a lifelong love of music, playing the violin in her high school orchestra and teaching herself the guitar and the hammered dulcimer. She sang in church and high school choirs, and later in various community choral groups.

She was awarded a BA degree in psychology and sociology from Wagner College in 1971, then worked as a psychiatric social worker and counselor with children, adolescents and families in various agencies around NYC. She received her MSW degree from Hunter College in 1981 and spent the rest of her career working with the NYC Board of Education. She always loved children, and was especially close to her nieces and nephews, even pitching in to help raise them when the need arose.

In 1990 she married Berkeley Robert Fleming, a native of Manhattan. Together they adopted and raised a daughter, Donna Fleming, and later welcomed a beloved granddaughter, Kayley Moore.

She had a gift for friendship and held on to her friends for years and years. She was cherished by her family and friends for her wisdom and kindness, her deep faith, and her gentle humor.

She was preceded in death by her brother Douglas, her husband Berkeley (who was called Rob) and her beloved friend and sister-in-law, Honoree Fleming.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna, her granddaughter, Kayley, her sisters Carol and Bonnie, and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be sorely missed.
