Margaret Whittle

December 23rd, 2017 our Mom's beautiful soul became an Angel.

Thank you everyone for your support, prayers, blessings, hugs, visits, cards and anything you have done to make Mom's days special.

Margaret A. Whittle, age 77, born to Sarah and Frederick Haughey (previously deceased), raised in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and later a resident of Oceanside, NY since 1975, passed away surrounded by love on December 23rd, 2017.

She was a loving and devoted mother to her two children; Kerri (Max/Robert) and James (Catherine), whom she loved very much. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren; Robby Murphy, Sara Grace and Jack Matthew Whittle. Margaret was blessed to live her life in a loving and nuturing home with her sister; Helen Arlene Traynor (no two sisters loved each other more.) and her previously deceased brother-in-law; Matthew Traynor. Margaret also leaves behind a brother; Thomas Haughey (Helene) who she always looked up to, and loved along with her nephew; Tommy(Kristin) and her niece; Katie.

Margaret was born with spina bifida which limited her to sitting, standing, and walking for short periods of time. Her parents were told at birth Margaret would probably not live past six months. Later was told she would never have children. She beat the odds and achieved both.

Margaret battled breast cancer twice, as well as many other medical issues and overcame them all. She suffered a stroke the day after Mother's Day and fought as hard as she could (as she always did.), but now Margaret is at peace.

People say: "It's not the day you are born or the day you leave this earth that matters... it's the dash." Well Margaret made that dash matter.

Margaret never let the disabilities get in the way of her life. She never complained though she endured pain every day. She was always there for her family and friends. One of Margaret's greatest joys was being on the PTA. She was so excited to be PTA Grandma and Lifetime memeber. She started with the PTA when her grandson; Robby Murphy, started at school #8 in 1995. Margaret was Clifford the Dog at book sales, and she was at all school # 8 events helping in some way. Later, Margaret was a part of several committees including but not limited to: scholarship, drug and alcohol, teacher appreciation luncheon, dawn delirium, senior fashion show and Monday bake sales. High on her list was the adopt a senior program. She was the one filing out the hundreds of raffles that came pouring in, doing each one by hand. The highlight of Margaret's year was Dawn Delirium. She loved knowing that there was an after prom party where students would be safe, and she couldn't wait to see who won the car at the end of the evening.

The PTA women were like her daughters and she loved them very much. Margaret has had the joy of seeing so many students go from kindergarten to graduation to seeing them get jobs, married and have children of their own. She made her DASH UNFORGETTABLE.
