SORENSON, Marie Colette, age 84, of Rockville Center, NY died Saturday, August 25, 2018.
Colette was born June 8, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY, and was a graduate of Fontbonne Hall Academy. After marrying in 1956, Colette and Bob moved to Oceanside, Long Island where they raised their family. Colette was a homemaker and also worked as a medical secretary for several private practice physicians. In 2014, she retired from South Nassau Communities Hospital after 22 years of service working as a secretary within their volunteer department. Colette loved the sea and could often be seen riding her pink bike on the Long Beach boardwalk.
Colette was the beloved daughter of Marie and Vincent Matthews, and devoted sister to Vincent (wife, Catherine) and Kevin Matthews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Robert Sorenson. Colette is survived by four children: daughters, Sister Marie Sorenson (Queens, NY) and Susan Sorenson (NYC); and sons, Arthur Sorenson (wife, Pamala Bennett) (Long Beach, NY), and Robert Sorenson (NYC); and cherished granddaughters: Rebecca Sorenson (Brooklyn, NY) and Rose Sorenson (Queens, NY).
The wake will take place at Towers Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 29th from 2-4pm & 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Anthony’s Church in Oceanside on Thursday, August 30th at 10:45am.
In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to South Nassau Communities Hospital, or St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, both in Oceanside, NY.
