Marie Rose Rosiane Pierre-Louis, affectionately known as Mommi-Yann, was born on August 29, 1930 to Dupré Turnier and Daniela Bayard. Born and raised in Jacmel, Haiti she was educated there and became a schoolteacher. She later moved to Port-Au-Prince where she continued to teach for a number of years and then retired. She met Etzer Pierre-Louis when she was twenty-two (22) and got married the following year. Together they had seven children: Yves-Marie, Marie Ketteline, Andre Frantz, Jacques Mario, Marie Yanick, Emmanuel, and Ronald. Sadly, Yves-Marie passed away when he was one-year-old. Years later, Rosiane and Etzer took in Valerie Chipitte as their own. When her children began their careers in the United States, she moved to New York with Etzer and lived with Ketteline. She was often visited by
all her children. She became a widow on June 14, 2001 when her husband suddenly passed away. The loss of her husband was difficult for the entire family, but she stressed the importance of love, faith, and family. She often visited her son, Ronald, in Portland, Oregon. While in Portland, she became ill, but her faith in God and will to live did not waiver. She succumbed to her illness on April 19, 2016 at 5:35 AM, after a courageous fight. She is survived by her six children, nineteen (19) grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
