Maryellen Duffy

DUFFY — It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Ellen Duffy (née Powers) of Cutchogue, NY, on April 25, 2025, at the age of 84, surrounded by her loving family.

Throughout her long and fruitful life, Mary Ellen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She cherished spending time with her family, attending plays and concerts in Manhattan with loved ones, and traveling throughout Europe. She also dedicated many years volunteering at the St. Agnes Parish Service Center in Rockville Centre and La Salle Academy in Manhattan. Mary Ellen was happiest when surrounded by family, especially her grandchildren, with whom she loved sharing family stories, laughter, and smiles.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her best friend and beloved husband of 60 years, James R. Duffy. She is survived by her children: Terence and his wife Lil; James and his wife Mary Ellen; Sean and his wife Jessie; Michael and his wife Diane; and her daughter Mary Ellen and her partner Renee. She was affectionately known as "Mum" to her 15 wonderful grandchildren: Liam, Nolan, Laura, Alannah, Ashley, Jim, Erin, Coleen, Kieran, Meghan, Aidan, Luke, Grace, Ian, and Emmet.

She will be greatly missed, but her family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with her beloved husband, whom she has dearly missed over the past five years.

Services to honor and celebrate her life will be held at Towers Funeral Home in Oceanside, NY, on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 PM and 7:00–9:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Church, NY, on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 10:45 AM.
