Felice and Matthew Joseph Henry, an inseparable couple who would have celebrated 45 years of marriage in 2026, passed away just days apart on January 8th and January 11th, 2026. Felice was 70 and Matt was 66.
Felice was born in Brooklyn, NY to Frank and Marie Sulfaro (D'Anna). Matt was born in Neptune, NJ to John Francis and Jacqueline Dorothy Henry (Sass).Their story together began in Goldsboro, North Carolina, around the time when Matt had proudly signed up to serve in the US Airforce. They would eventually settle down in Brooklyn, New York. They were married in the backyard of Felice's childhood home on June 27, 1981.After their move to NY, Matt worked as a securities trader on Wall Street, while Felice dedicated her time to caring for their two children: MaryGrace, born in 1984 and John Francis, born in 1989. In 1993, the family moved to Flanders, NJ where Felice would relearn to drive and return to the workforce as a caregiver and preschool teacher. Felice volunteered as a track and field coach for many years; not because she knew the first thing about running, but because she loved her kids. Matt was resilient. His family was incredibly proud of his 20 years of sobriety, during which he became active in his local AA community in NJ. He was the type of man who would do anything for his family and friends, usually while cracking an inappropriate joke. Both were happiest near the water; Felice relaxing on the beach and Matt with a fishing pole in hand. Their happiest memories were made during trips to North Carolina and Florida to visit family. Their greatest joy was spending time with their four grandchildren. While Matt struggled with his health in recent years, Felice often joked that he would somehow outlive her. As usual, "The Boss" had to be right. Felice died suddenly at home of natural causes, hours after learning Matt was losing his battle with the flu. They are survived by their children, MaryGrace (Louis) and John (Natalya), and their four cherished grandchildren, Everett, LucyJane, John Michael, and Avery. Felice is survived by her brother, John (Tonia), and sisters, Nina (Scott), and Maria (Tom). Matthew was predeceased by his brothers John and Joseph, and is survived by his sisters; Veronica (Herb), Betty Ann (Robert), Deborah (Stephen), and his brothers; Paul (Nancy), Kenneth (Paulette), and Kevin (Jenifer). They will be deeply missed by countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that wherever they are, they are still together—and likely still driving each other crazy.
A mass will be held in their honor on Saturday, January 31st at 11 AM at The Church of St Christopher. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to organizations like the American Cancer Society, Cancer Research Institute, or CancerCare.
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
