Muriel O'Connell

She was an angel on earth - now Muriel is an angel in Heaven. Muriel (Schrum) O'Connell died August 21, 2025 at her home in Oceanside, NY. She was born in New York, NY on November 16, 1926 to Emily & Adolphus Schrum. After graduating from high school, she worked as a Secretary at  B. Altmans in Manhattan until she married Joseph (Joe) O'Connell on April 22, 1950.They eventually moved to Oceanside, NY, where they lived for the rest of their lives.Muriel was a devout Catholic. Her faith was cherished every day.She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles (in ink), traveling internationally with her husband Joe, socializing with her friends and neighbors.She was a member and officer of The Pioneers Club (a travel club comprised of retired New York Telephone employees and their wives).Muriel was pre-deceased by her husband in February 2015. She was also pre-deceased by her parents, brother Robert and his wife Ronnie, her brother-in-law Thomas O'Connell and her sister-in-law, Sister Angelica (Betty) O'Connell.She is survived by her son, Danny O'Connell of Westminster, MD and his partner, Cindy Wahl.She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law Beth and Matt Cuddy, Freeport, NY. Beth devoted many years to caring for her Mother. Other survivors include sister-in-law Estelle O'Connell of Newport, RI, as well as many nieces and nephews.Beth and Danny want to thank Sharon Daley who lovingly provided care for Muriel, in her last months.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 26 from 3:00 to 7:00 at Towers Funeral Home, Oceanside, NY.Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Oceanside NY, on Wednesday, August 27 at 9:45 am. Interment will follow at Calverton Cemetery in Calverton, NY (Suffolk County).
