Patricia "Pat" Pfaus
Patricia "Pat" Pfaus, of Island Park, New York, passed away on July 17, 2026, from injuries she sustained after being struck by a drunk driver in Oceanside, New York, on June 18, 2026.
Born in New York City, Pat was raised in Woodside, Queens, and later in Oceanside, New York, where she graduated from Oceanside High School.
Pat was predeceased by her beloved parents, Victor and Josephine DeBiase Pfaus, and by her brother, Victor Pfaus.
She is survived by her loving sister, Margi (Michael) Call; her sister-in-law, Janice Wood Pfaus; her nephew and nieces, Christopher Call, Karen Call, Roxanne Pfaus (Steven Manicastri), and Victoria (Michael) Passias; her great-nephew and great-nieces, Marc VanCise, Athena and Arwen Manicastri, and Bible and Kassius Passias; her cousins, Bill (Janet) Frohlich and Susan O'Reilly; and many dear and devoted friends whose lives she touched with her kindness and generosity.
Pat enjoyed a long career with McGraw Hill Publishing and later with Forman, Lowell & Shapiro Insurance, where she was a dedicated and valued employee.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures and was an ardent fan of soap operas, PBS and British dramas, talk shows, and Broadway theatre. Nothing made her happier than spending time with family, enjoying lunch with friends, or finding the perfect greeting card to send for birthdays, holidays, or special occasions. Her cards and gifts often arrived a little late—not because she forgot, but because she insisted on finding exactly the right one. She loved the color purple and surrounded herself with jewelry and decorative keepsakes featuring stars or her initial.
Pat will be remembered for her thoughtful heart, loyal friendships, generous spirit, and the genuine care she showed to everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to PBS or to your local food pantry in Pat's memory.
