Raymond R. Grasing Sr.

In Loving Memory of Raymond R. Grasing, Sr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Raymond R. Grasing, Sr., who was called home on September 12, 2025, at the age of 87.

Born in New York City to Edna Collins and Henry Grasing, Ray was the youngest of eight children. This close-knit upbringing instilled in him a deep appreciation for family that would define his entire life. He was a cherished son, devoted brother, treasured uncle, loving husband, and dedicated father.

In 1962 Ray married the love of his life, Peggy Weadock, beginning a beautiful partnership built on devotion. When Peggy courageously battled cancer, Ray remained her unwavering caregiver until her passing. Together they had four children: Raymond (Susan), Anne (John), Maureen (Mike), and Gerald, who blessed him with eight grandchildren that he adored.

Ray dedicated 32 years of his life to the New York City Police Department, reaching the rank of First Grade Detective. Beyond his professional life, Ray was active in his local parish, serving as a Eucharistic minister and embodying his faith through acts of kindness and generosity.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional staff at Friendship House at St. George Village, in Roswell, GA, for their compassionate care over the past three plus years.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Ray’s life. There will be a wake this Thursday, September 18th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Towers Funeral Home in Oceanside. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, September 19th at 9:45 AM at St. Christopher’s Church in Baldwin, NY. Burial will be immediately following at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy, or The Society of St. Vincent De Paul USA.

Ray will be sorely missed for his wise yet simple advice, sense of humor, love for both immediate and extended family, and delicious dinners ending with homemade apple pies.

As he often reminded us, “Don’t be a nitwit!”
