Raymond McCombs

Raymond James McCombs Sr. 

December 22, 1946- June 7, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond James McCombs Sr., a man of remarkable character, boundless skill, and an enduring love for his family, friends and the open water.

Raymond was born in the Bronx on December 22, 1946, to the late William and Connie McCombs. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Susan Guihen McCombs, whose memory he carried with him always.

He is survived by his children Raymond (Courtney) McCombs of Chatham, NJ, Suzanne (Leif) Rosen of Seaford, NY, and Danielle McCombs of Oceanside, NY. He was the proud and adoring grandfather of Grace and Liam McCombs, Kaylee Buro, and Cassidy, Jack, and Gavin Rosen, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his brother William (Olga) McCombs and his sister Josephine "Fluffy" McCombs, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Raymond was truly one of a kind. He served his country honorably in the United States Army before building a life defined by entrepreneurship, craftsmanship, and pride in his work. He was the Captain of The Bronx Queen, a role that perfectly suited a man who was never more at home than on the water. As a proud Operating Engineer, he contributed his skill and dedication to the construction of countless buildings across New York City, leaving a permanent mark on the skyline he called home.

A devoted member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Raymond belonged to Pelham Lodge No. 712, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1989, the highest honor his brothers could bestow.

Beyond his professional life, Raymond was a man who could fix anything, and who approached every challenge with competence and determination. He loved boating, fishing, and scuba diving, and found his deepest peace on the water. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend whose presence made every room feel steadier.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
