Teresa “Tessie” Lopez (Fuoti) died on May 21, 2026. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Teresa was born in Manhattan to Salvatore and Marietta (Cuffari) Fuoti. She moved to Sicily as an infant where she spent her early childhood until her return to Manhattan at age 6. She attended Washington Irving High School and at age 18 met her husband, Victor Lopez. They were married in 1947 and moved to Canarsie, Brooklyn where they were blessed with and raised their three daughters: Margaret, Marie and Victoria.
Teresa was a well-known and valued resident of the Canarsie community. She was a member of the Canarsie Lioness Chapter and worked at P.S. 114. Later in life, she split her time residing in Roxbury, Queens, New Port Richey, Florida, and Long Island.
She was extremely devout in her faith and made countless donations to veterans and charities over the years. Between her sass and her quick wit, Teresa had a spitfire personality combined with a heart of gold that made her memorable to all those she met. There truly was no one quite like her. Teresa’s greatest passion was being a mother and grandmother. She devoted her life to caring for her family. She was a talented cook and always cooked from the heart; Her simple recipes tasted incredible because of all the joy it brought her to feed the ones she loved.
Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles and Joseph Fuoti, sister Anna Fuoti, husband Victor Lopez and daughter Victoria (Lopez) Cretella. She is survived by her daughters Margaret Guarino and her husband Joseph Caruso, and Marie Liguori. She will forever be cherished as “Grandma Tess” by her grandchildren John Paul Guarino and his wife Michelle, Christopher Guarino and his wife Kimberly, Andrew Liguori and his wife Tara, Santo Liguori and his wife Jessica, Teresa DeMarco and her husband Anthony, Victor Cretella, Louis Cretella and his wife Rosanna, Andrew Cretella and his wife Monique, Christopher Cretella and his wife Dorothy, and Samantha-Jo Resk and her husband Steven. She will be missed immensely by 28 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
