Tom Forkin, 83, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, in Oceanside, New York. Born on October 14, 1942, in Manhattan, New York. Tom lived a busy life beginning with eloping at 21 and 3 kids by 26. He worked as a telephone installer for 25 years, retiring to help run their small bar business - Garryowens down in Long Beach. Having a passion for music, sports, and spirited conversation made this a perfect place for him. Many will tell stories of the incredible bands that he brought in.
Tom was a man of sharp wit and a sarcastic sense of humor Known affectionately as "Pa" to the grandchildren, he had a unique charm - equal parts humor and heart - that left a lasting impression on those he cared about. He was always ready with a clever remark or a listening ear, offering support and love without condition.
He is survived by his brother John as well as three children - Tommy, Brian and Janet. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren - Thomas, Alex, James, Robert, Brendan, Jillian, and Phoebe - each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years Eileen as well as just last year his younger sister Eileen and niece Karen. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
A lifelong enthusiast of music in all its forms, Tom found joy in melodies that spanned genres and generations. Whether it was 50's, 60's classic rock or pop, there was music playing in the background music was a constant companion. He taught himself the piano, then all of the kids. He dabbled with the harmonica and the guitar. He also had a keen interest in sports and politics-always ready to debate the latest headlines or cheer on his favorite teams with unwavering loyalty, and most likely a bet placed on the side. He tried his best to live long enough to see the Mets win the "World Serious" but unfortunately that didn't come to fruition.
Those who knew Tom will remember him as someone who told it as he saw it. He was truly one of a kind-a character in the best sense of the word-and his presence will be deeply missed.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspire kindness, laughter, acceptance and love.
