Tillie M. Hopkins

Hopkins, Tillie M. (nee McManamon), age 79, of Oceanside, New York. Tillie, affectionately known as Maud to her family and friends, passed away February 19, 2022, with her family by her side.

On August 2, 1942, Tillie was born to parents, James and Mary McManamon. She was the youngest of 10 children from Doona West, Ballycroy, County Mayo, Ireland. She came to America, June 1964 and became a United States citizen, June 2002.

Tillie met her husband, the late Eugenio Patrick Hopkins at an Irish dance. After dating for a few years, they married on June 24, 1972, happily married for twenty-nine years. Together, they worked many jobs while raising a family and lived the American dream of owning a home in Oceanside.

Tillie is survived by her adoring son, John (Claire) and her beloved daughter, Mary McCarthy (Andrew). Fondly remembered as Grandma to Caitlín and Fionn Hopkins. She was a loving companion to John, who was extremely doting and caring to her for eighteen years. She is survived and loved by many family and friends around the world.

Tillie loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. She was very proud of her Irish heritage. She was known for her wonderful Irish soda bread. As a young girl she learned to make the bread from her mother. Tillie had great compassion for the elderly. She affectionally loved animals, especially cats.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 23, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. at Towers Funeral Home Inc., 2681 Long Beach Road Oceanside, N.Y. 11572. Funeral Mass and burial will be at St. Mary's Church in Ballycroy, County Mayo, Ireland.
