Celebrating the Life of Virginia Haas

Virginia Ginger Haas, born March 6, 1943, passed away on January 10, 2026, following a hospitalization for complications from COPD and heart failure. A woman of immense strength, Virginia was also a proud breast cancer survivor who faced life’s challenges with remarkable resilience. She passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, adventure, and love.

A native of Rockaway, New York, Virginia was the daughter of John and Charlotte Glasser. Though she lived in Florida and then in Georgia for a time, she eventually returned to her beloved New York roots. Virginia spent her career as a physical therapy assistant, a role that perfectly suited her compassionate soul. She adored her job and formed special bonds with her patients, who frequently cited her as their favorite caregiver.

Beyond her work, Ginger was defined by her love for the sea and people. Having grown up on the water, she passed that sense of adventure down to her children and grandchildren. She loved the ocean—being on it, living near it, and the simple joy of a good fishing trip. A kind and open-hearted person, Ginger had the extraordinary benefit of deep and lifelong friendships. Always one to drop a card in the mail or make a well-timed phone call, she had built a circle of friendships that were especially meaningful to her. She was a second mother to many, the life of every party, always ready for a good meal and a laugh, and no family gathering was complete without her signature rice pudding.

She was also a master with a crochet hook. From the cherished baby blankets that welcomed new life to the Harry Potter scarves that made Halloweens special, her handmade gifts remain a testament to her thoughtfulness and talent.

Virginia was predeceased by her husbands, Donald Duggan and Thomas Haas. Her legacy lives on through her brother, John Glasser, and sister-in-law, Barbara Glasser; her children, Lori Duggan Gold (David Gold) and John Duggan (Laurie); her three grandchildren, Zachary Gold, Katherine Gold Reilly (Kenneth Reilly), and Jake Duggan (Ally); and her great-grandson, Caiden Duggan. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their spouses and children whom she loved dearly. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The American Cancer Society in Ginger's memory.
