William "Bill" Lombard passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, at the age of 86. He leaves behind a lifetime of service, leadership, laughter, and love that touched countless lives.

Bill was the devoted husband of his beautiful wife, Mary Lombard, with whom he shared an extraordinary marriage of more than 66 years. They were married on June 18, 1960, and together built a life filled with unwavering love, partnership, and countless cherished memories. Among their greatest joys was traveling together, especially their treasured trips to Arizona, where they enjoyed the sunshine and each other's company.

A dedicated member of the New York City Police Department for over 35 years, Bill proudly served the people of New York with honor, integrity, and commitment. During his distinguished career, he rose to the position of Borough Commander, earning the respect of his fellow officers and the communities he served through his steady leadership and tireless work ethic.

Bill's dedication to service extended far beyond his police career. He served as President of his cooperative for 12 years, where his organization, fairness, and determination helped improve the community he called home. He also proudly served as President of both the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and SHIELDS, always advocating for and supporting his fellow officers.

Organization was one of Bill's greatest strengths. Anyone involved with the local Greek festivals knew they could count on him to ensure everything ran smoothly, especially when it came to coordinating parking and closing streets. If there was a plan to be made or a problem to solve, Bill was already three steps ahead.

Although Bill and Mary never had children of their own, Bill became a father figure to many throughout his life. He generously shared his wisdom, guidance, encouragement, and friendship with family members, neighbors, fellow officers, and younger generations who looked up to him. His influence will live on through the many people whose lives he helped shape.

Bill will be remembered as a loving husband, a loyal friend, and a man whose optimism never faded. Even during his final days, he faced life's challenges with hope, determination, and a smile that reminded others to keep moving forward.He also had a wonderful sense of humor. Bill loved running jokes, often keeping them alive long after everyone else thought they were over and somehow making them funny all over again.

Of course, Bill was also famously stubborn. In fact, if there was one thing he was more determined about than anything else, it was proving everyone else wrong. We like to think that even on his final day, he was probably insisting, "I'm fine," while everyone around him knew better. His stubbornness wasn't a flaw it was simply part of what made Bill unmistakably Bill.

Bill's legacy is one of service, leadership, generosity, resilience, and love. He devoted his life to helping others, strengthening his community, and standing beside those he cared about. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Mary, his family, his friends, his fellow officers, and the many people fortunate enough to know him.

Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in remembering a man who lived with purpose, loved wholeheartedly, laughed often, and left the world better than he found it.

Rest in eternal peace, Bill. Your watch has ended, but your legacy will never be forgotten.
